The history of Shadow Mountain Resort: Shadow Mountain Resort initially known as the Shadow Mountain Club, was a foundational development for the city of Palm Desert, first opening its doors in 1948. It was the vision of developer Clifford Henderson, often called the “father of Palm Desert”. The Shadow Mountain Golf Club, the first golf course in Palm Desert, opened in 1958. It was designed by legendary golfers Gene Sarazen and George Von Elm and was designated a Historic Landmark by the city in 2010. The resort and golf club later became separate entities in 1968.
